What Can You Make With Pressed Flowers?
There are so many possibilities when it comes to creating with pressed flowers. Some favourites include artwork, bookmarks, gift tags, ceramic or air-dried clay decorations, cards and jewellery. Pressed flower jewellery often uses resin, which isn’t a medium I work with, but you can find plenty of guidance online if it’s something you’d like to explore: please follow all of the safety guidelines!
As a general rule, if you have a surface you can glue onto, then you can decorate it with pressed flowers. Simple projects such as handmade cards and bookmarks are perfect for children to make, and a joyful way to introduce them to the wonders of our natural world. I remember making a bookmark as a child with lovely pressed violas - it felt so magical!
I predominantly create artwork with my pressed flowers. I love creating art in various different styles such as collages full of movement and interesting shapes and forms, ‘bouquets’ with lovely intertwined stems, and striking frames with individual flowers. If you’d like to make your own pressed flower artwork, you can glue your flowers onto any acid-free paper or card and frame them in any frame you choose. Don’t forget to explore different paper textures and colours. It’s so much fun playing around with the flowers and trying different design ideas; there are endless ways to style your flowers, and it’s wonderful that every single creation will always be one-of-a-kind as each pressed flower is a completely individual work of nature.
