All About The Pressed Flower Handbook

As we near the publication date for The Pressed Flower Handbook (I’m so excited!), it feels like a good time to tell you all about it and what you’ll find inside. I can’t wait to share my flower pressing knowledge with the world through this beautiful hardback book - it will guide you step-by-step through the mindful activity of traditional flower pressing using a wooden press (there’s also a technique for pressing flowers using heavy books for those starting out!), and provide lots of creative inspiration for making lovely keepsakes with your pressings. However it’s also so much more than just a how-to guide. The Pressed Flower Handbook is set to the seasonal rhythms of my garden in the English countryside, and will encourage you to slow down, notice previously hidden details in your surroundings, embrace the magic of every season and develop a deeper connection to nature. It feels more important than ever to embrace gentle, calming activities, and to spend time in nature to boost our health and wellbeing, and I believe traditional flower pressing is the perfect escape from the stresses and chaos of everyday life.

Inside The Pressed Flower Handbook, you’ll find:

  • Advice on how to select the best flowers for pressing to help you to achieve beautiful results.

  • A detailed step-by-step guide to traditional flower pressing, including equipment, how to work with different flowers, top tips, advanced techniques, colour changes, storage and troubleshooting.

  • Inspiration and ideas for how to create with your pressings, including step-by-step instructions for glueing pressed flowers.

  • A beautiful section about the Meadow and Thyme garden and my reflections on gardening for wildlife.

  • An introduction to the wonderful world of floriography (the secret language of flowers).

  • The best flowers to press in each season.

  • Gorgeous step-by-step creative pressed flower projects (flowers in vintage frames, greetings cards, decoupage jam jars, festive baubles).

  • My thoughts on sustainability and mindful living.

  • Stunning photography throughout by professional photographer Jim Holland (we share the same surname but we’re not related, it’s just a strange coincidence!).

I’ve written The Pressed Flower Handbook to help you to feel confident when pressing and creating with your flowers. It’s my hope that, like me, you’ll fall deeply in love with this timeless craft and that it will bring you many calm, joyful moments. You can pre-order your copy of The Pressed Flower Handbook now online and from all good bookstores (pre-orders are so helpful to get books noticed, so a heartfelt thank you from me!).
