The Pressed Flower Revival

The beautiful pastime of traditional flower pressing is seeing a huge resurgence in popularity, and it’s easy to see why. Modern life is becoming increasingly busy and as a result more and more of us are seeking ways to slow down and relax with simple, gentle activities that help us to escape from the stresses of everyday life.

Flower pressing is the perfect way to reconnect with our natural surroundings, ease our racing minds, express ourselves through creativity and boost our wellbeing. It is a wonderfully accessible activity that can be enjoyed by all ages. Those starting out don’t even need a flower press; you can get lovely results using heavy books to compress your flowers.

One thing I really love about traditional flower pressing is that it can’t be rushed, and therefore it teaches us to be patient. Not everything in life needs to be, or indeed should be, instant. There’s something very charming and nostalgic about knowing you’ll have to wait with excited anticipation for three weeks before you open your flower press and reveal the magic inside.

I’m absolutely delighted to be leading the flower pressing revival, with the recent release of my book, The Pressed Flower Handbook, helping to introduce thousands of people all over the world to this delightful art form. It’s a book all about pausing, noticing, mindful moments and celebrating the beauty of nature. The Pressed Flower Handbook has been hugely popular and is already on its second print run, whilst receiving many wonderful reviews. You’ll find it for sale in online stores and in all good bookshops - it makes a gorgeous thoughtful gift for anyone who loves flowers and nature.

If you’ve been thinking about giving flower pressing a go, please do - you won’t regret it! You’ll find step-by-step flower pressing guides and plenty of gentle encouragement in The Pressed Flower Handbook; who knows where your flower pressing journey will take you!
